From the “what took them so long” department: online mag Portfolio profiles Joost and, somewhere in the huge text you can find an interesting piece of info - Joost will launch a web version of its video player later this year.

Here’s what Portfolio says: “This year, viewers will be able to watch Joost videos in a browser window. Go to Joost’s website, click on shows like Seth Green’s edgy Robot Chicken or an old Rocky and Bullwinkle episode and you can watch them as easily as you’d watch a video on YouTube.

Joost, which was very hyped (and rightly so, might I add) throughout 2007 has slowed down a bit, and we haven’t heard too many interesting news from them in the last couple of months. This, however, is big; having to download a desktop application to watch videos online surely annoys and drives away many potential users.
