The design and planning of the digital ecosystems becomes the most important element,  more important than the promotion and communication of a product, service and/or event.

And the type of event we are talking about is the final in Quebec City of Red Bull Crashed Ice Invasion, a stunning event that involves thousands of people annually.
On this occasion, a smartphone app was developed to provide  services to the nomads of the digital ecosystem with a goal to complement the event with a  digital UX infotainment, offering everything the modern technology and social networks can offer including:

  • Augmented Reality for where to eat, where to party, where to stay, where to shop and go out with friends in Quebec City.
  • Connected to Facebook so that users can follow the movements of their friends through check-ins at the premises and during the race close to the track and curves.
  • All the basic information about the event (history, profiles of athletes, track, chart, Twitter status updates, etc…)
  • Real-time updates on travel by officials through Twitter feeds, including the results live from the Red Bull Crashed Ice 2011 World Championship final season.

Red Bull created a perfect ecosystem that is extremely useful for the event and has managed to stand out from the competition by offering services that allow the visitors to share their experience with their friends and other visitors.

What is clear is that a platform and App (application) doesn’t make sense to exist if it has no real utility in terms of services and improving the user experience (UX) and this project is a good example of that.
