My watch will talk with my mobile. I will be able to call someone without pulling my mobile from the pocket. When I saw for the first time I’m watch website my imagination flown into hundred of sci-fi pictures. Keeping surfing the pages, I also discovered the “made in Italy” factor.

But let’s talk about the smartwatch:

This Android-based SmartWatch connects, using Bluetooth 2.1 + EDR, with almost all the existing mobile operating systems: Android (HTC, Samsung, Motorola, LG, etc), RIM (Blackberry), iOS (Apple iPhone), Bada (Samsung), Symbian (Nokia), Windows Phone 7.

Using tethering, if available on the mobile phone/operator, it can use the data connection to download custom applications from a dedicated marketplace.

The built-in microphone makes me dreaming to talk to my watch as Michael Knight, asking it to call someone as Siri is doing with the iPhone (my Android mobile already contains a lot of voice-controlled features).

I hope all my “in bocca al lupo” (Italian’s version of “break your legs”) to all the Italian team who are working to this very promising device.

Technologies that was changing radically the world of toys was well known for some time, especially with latest digital innovations like as AR some years ago when for launch of Avatar Movie, Mattel developed the first Card table game with AR interaction.

Now Disney announce the first Physical-digital Toys based on interaction between a traditional toys object and an iPad called “Disney Appmates“.

In an industry first, Disney introduced today Disney AppMATesTM Mobile Application Toys, a new toy line that comes to life digitally when used with an Apple iPad by allowing kids to use the tablet’s screen as a virtual play mat. Developed in collaboration between Disney Consumer Products (DCP) and Disney Mobile and featuring patent-pending technology, the Appmates toy line features miniature Disney•Pixar Cars 2 vehicles with sensors on the base of each toy that are recognized as a unique footprint by an app with no cable or Bluetooth connection required. Simply download the free Cars 2 Appmates app from the iTunes app store, place your favorite Appmates toy character on the screen and play.

The Disney experiments is very interesting but in the same time limited to the iPad eco-system, but for sure open an unbelievable section on interactive & digital solution for marketing and merchandising between the physical an digital world, exactly like as the soon incoming NFC technology for smartphone and digital wallet solutions can do.

The first toys in the Appmates series are from Pixar’s Cars. Twin packs of toy autos — each representing a character from the popular film series — will be available in stores for about $20.
Apple retail stores and Apple.com will be selling their own exclusive two-pack of Appmates in stores this October that in the future, other Disney franchises will also get the Appmates treatment.

Google did a ton of talking about search at its Inside Search event today, and two of the biggest new developments have been brought to the desktop. It’s just announced that Android-style Voice Search is headed to Chrome (with support for English only, initially), and that it will be joined by a new Search by Image feature (also available in Chrome, or Firefox with an extension).

To use that latter feature, you simply drag and drop an image or cut and paste an image URL in the search box, and then Google tries its best to recognize it and deliver relevant results — including identifying the location in an old vacation photo, for instance (though Google notes it isn’t doing face recognition). Both features will be rolling out over the next few days, but you can get a glimpse of them now in the demo videos after the break.

MOTIV is an open source project that uses Kinect to give digital musicians direct control of emotional expression by interpreting their physical gestures in real-time.

In this video, MOTIV allows her to control note velocity, and orchestral layering (the string section) based on the speed and magnitude of her gestures. The faster her right hand moves, the harder the notes are played. The more she moves her whole body (she enjoys spinning), the louder the string section becomes.

WHY NOW? Many new digital music-making interfaces lack musically expressive control, depriving musicians of their innate ability to emote through performance.

WHY MOTIV? MOTIV puts musicians in control of the tempo, instrumentation and note velocities at the moment, giving way to a musical conversation with surprising and expressive results.

Smarcos project aims to help users of interconnected embedded systems by ensuring their interusability. Nowadays, many products connect with web services (media players, refrigerators).

This distributed computing is becoming the norm in embedded systems. Smarcos allows devices and services to communicate using UI level terms and symbols, exchange context information, user actions, and semantic data. It allows applications to follow user’s actions, predict needs and appropriately react to unexpected actions.

The use cases would be constructed on the basis of three complementary domains: attentive personal systems, interusable devices and complex system control. Several pilots would be carried out to implement the use cases. Smarcos is planning to run a large trial during a major public event and is currently considering the 2012 Olympics in London.

With the project, several smaller prototypes will be implemented.

H3G introduces its service:

“We have created 3LiveShop for one reason only – to make it easier for our customers to choose the mobile device, the subscription and the service that suits their needs.

With 3LiveShop you get all the services and personal contact that you get in a regular store – even though you’re sitting somewhere else. You and the sales person can see and talk to each other while the sales person demonstrates products and services to you, just like on a video conference – only better.”

There’s nothing to be added to technology used in this project since it produces many user conversions because of the ease of use.

The Pirata Boat Race pits two teams against one another to row themselves to victory. With up to ten shipmates split between two vessels, the aim is to propel your boat to the finish line before the other team, using your iPhone as your oars.

Pirata combined a vast slew of technologies to create an experience that’s far closer to console gaming than usually found online. The site itself acts as a hub, allowing multiple people to huddle around the screen, snap the QR code on their iPhones and propel their boat via the built-in accelerometer; a unique combination to provide a new and exciting gaming experience.

After a couple of years of teases and months of closed beta testing, the Gaikai streaming PC game service is now officially live. The CEO of Gaikai, Dave Perry, announced that the service was open to anyone to try out on his official web site late on Friday.

Personally I try and game with Mass Effect 2 into my Safari Browser of my MacBook Pro. Unbelievable!

The streaming service is concentrating only on limited game demos, at least for now (unlike the OnLive service which has full games to play). The official Gaikai web site is offering a streaming demo of Mass Effect 2 (access to the demo pops up on the right hand side of the site after a few seconds). Gaikai is also being used to demo other EA games such as Spore and The Sims 3 which didn’t have traditional PC demos released for them. Most interesting is that Gaikai is the only place to play a PC demo of the recent sci-fi horror game Dead Space 2 (after you fill out a survey). We’ve played it and on our connection it’s pretty smooth. There’s also a way to try out the quasi-MMO game Second Life via a Gaikai connection.

On his web site Perry states that at GDC next week he will be demoing a Gaikai-powered game running inside a Facebook page. He also states that ” … we will show some really high-end, high-performance games running at 60hz with no work needing to be done by the publishers / developers.”
